Convening net-events

The X360 approach to convening events

The X360 co-founders are guided by the following contextual, structural and cultural elements in convening events:

  • 2020 –it is a ‘milestone’ year on the world calendar, with the challenge of an unprecedented global crisis
  • Co-convened – it is a collaborative undertaking involving dozens of people with varying experience & professional backgrounds & cultural perspectives
  • Inspiring – it will be co-designed to engage and encourage participants to invent and implement their own initiatives
  • Facilitators, change-makers & thought leaders – one impactful aspect may be engaging a cohort of talented ‘cultural creative’ professionals with compatible mindset, toolsets & skillsets
  • Pop-up ‘knowledge festival’ – providing a participatory platform with low barrier-to-entry options that support user-generated projects & events (working within guidelines)
  • City dialogues – encouraging diverse participation across time-zones and cultures, professional disciplines and policy perspectives to ensure that the global view is shaped by lots of local views
  • Networked and curated – piloting new dimensions in connection & collaboration through digital tech combined with skilful facilitation
  • A collective view of our common future – producing compelling post-event artefacts as a collective output that may be widely shared and form the basis of future global/local deliberation.

Purpose & benefits

Incorporating these perspectives will in turn support a nuanced approach that creates the conditions to:

    Experiment

in how to effectively and usefully capture and share emerging practice as it’s happening

    Draw to the surface

learning and experience that can be shared across borders and boundaries

    Unpack the challenges

that may be addressed by sharing and collaboration

    Identify and challenge

some of the existing blockages to a more open and connected public sphere

    Fostering ‘knowledge interoperability’

so can we talk about these issues in a shared language with local context

    CASE: GovCamp

Two examples of X360 event principles in practice are the GovCamp ‘Live’ multi-city /multi-timezone model and the Innovation Dialogues national ‘conversation relay’ model.
